The rhythmic pattern starts on beat 12 — not beat 1 — a disorienting feature that separates true flamenco players from novices. Every guitarist, singer, and dancer must feel this cycle without counting. The harmonic language is the Phrygian cadence: E–F in Andalusian minor, resolving to A. Advanced versions include remates (stops), llamadas (calls to the dancer), and falsetas (melodic solos) inserted between compás cycles.
