Samba in E

Brazilian samba guitar (violão) plays a rhythmic "batida" that complements the percussion section. In E major: E–A–B7–E. The samba rhythm has a characteristic accent on the "and" of beat 2, creating its infectious forward drive. Unlike bossa nova, samba is louder, faster, and more percussive.
